GBI charges a former Vidalia, Georgia police sergeant with misusing the department's Flock system
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Oct. 19, 2026 that it had arrested a former Vidalia Police Department sergeant and charged him with two counts of misuse of a license plate reader system and violation of oath of office. Vidalia police asked the GBI to investigate on Oct. 14 after an internal audit of the department's Flock Safety system, and the GBI says preliminary information indicates the former sergeant accessed the system multiple times for non-law-enforcement purposes. He was booked into the Toombs County Jail and no longer works for the department. The GBI did not say whose plates were searched or why. The investigation is ongoing, and the case file will go to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review. He is charged, not convicted. The case follows Flock-misuse charges earlier this month against employees in Baldwin County and Richmond County, Georgia.
