For Flock's Sake, "National ALPR stats," snapshot of 2026-10-12, https://forflocksakes.com/stats/ (counts derived from OpenStreetMap contributors' data, ODbL).
Say "reported on OpenStreetMap," not "installed." Open data: stats.json · history.json (daily counts since 2026-10-12). Derived from OpenStreetMap, available under the ODbL.
Method
- Once a day we download every OSM node tagged
surveillance:type=ALPR(plus disused/removed variants) in US bounding boxes from a public Overpass API server. - State totals use Census 2023 cartographic state boundaries (point-in-polygon). City counts are cameras within a radius of the Census internal point, sized to the place's land area (shown on each page), so they include some neighbors and miss some edges.
- If a download looks partial (total drops more than 10% day-over-day), we keep the previous snapshot instead.
- Changes over time reflect mapping activity as well as real installs and removals. Full methodology.
