New Jersey ALPR law

A.B. 4070 (2026)

Prohibits government entities from sharing, selling or transferring ALPR information. Information can be shared with government entities when permitted by law; when there is a valid judicial order/warrant; and to law enforcement agencies for the purpose of a criminal investigation, provided the agency certifies that the information will not be used for any civil immigration enforcement purpose, the information will not be shared, sold or transferred, and the receiving agency will abide to other restrictions and limitations in New Jersey law. If a law enforcement agency has shared or used ALPR systems in violation of the law, the attorney general can prohibit sharing or deny access. Any agreements related to sharing records are public records. Requires notice within 90 days to persons that are the subject of a disclosure of ALPR data when required by judicial order unless the notice compromises a criminal investigation. Government entities that knowingly obtain, disclose, or use protected information for unauthorized purposes are subject to injunctive relief and civil liability for damages.
