Jackson, Mississippi police chief says the city will not renew its Flock contract

At an Oct. 14, 2026 Public Safety & Parks Committee meeting, Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney said she does not plan to renew the city's Flock Safety license-plate reader contract because of concerns about how the cameras handle data, including mandatory data sharing with other agencies without a subpoena. Dozens of Flock cameras have been installed in parts of Jackson since 2024. The city's chief administrative office could not give an exact expiration date but said Flock will remove the cameras when the contract ends; Brackney said the city will explore other license-plate reader options. Council members noted the cameras have helped solve crimes and asked for stronger local misuse policies while the contract remains in force. As of publication, Flock Safety had not issued a public response to this announcement in the sources we reviewed.
