Rep. Tlaib introduces bill to ban federal funds for Flock and other ALPRs

U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) introduced H.R. 10807, the Get the Flock Out of Our Communities Act, and announced it at a news conference in Inkster, Michigan. The bill would bar federal funds from buying, deploying, or operating automated mass-surveillance systems, including automated license-plate readers such as Flock, biometric systems, and facial recognition; require removal of federally funded systems and deletion of related data; and make state and local applicants for certain federal law-enforcement grants certify they do not operate or access such networks. Cosponsors include Reps. Sylvia Garcia, Summer Lee, Ilhan Omar, Delia Ramirez, Nydia Velázquez, and Bonnie Watson Coleman. The bill was referred to the House Oversight and Judiciary committees; it has not become law. Westland City Council President Mike McDermott spoke at the event about ending that city's Flock contract. As of publication, Flock Safety had not issued a public response to the bill in the sources we reviewed.
