Russellville, Arkansas council votes without opposition against renewing the city's Flock contract
The Russellville, Ark. City Council voted without opposition on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026 to oppose renewal of the city's agreement with Flock Safety, River Valley Radio reported. Police Chief David Ewing had already pulled Flock from his proposed 2027 police budget in mid-September; he described it as a business decision, saying he had grown unhappy with the company's customer service and its response when he raised concerns or sought changes. Because the agreement has a non-appropriation clause, Mayor Fred Teague said, "If you don't appropriate the money, then the contract is done." The cameras are not being shut off right away: Ewing said he believes the contract expires Feb. 18, 2027 and has a 30-day notice provision, and he said he would give council members a timeline for when the cameras stop collecting data and come down. Councilman Justin Keller asked City Attorney William F. Smith III to determine whether the city could legally cover or otherwise block the cameras without damaging equipment owned by Flock or another party, River Valley Radio reported.
