Milton, Georgia's 2025 Officer of the Year was fired over Flock searches, his attorney says; the city says more is coming
A Milton police detective who was named the department's 2025 Officer of the Year was terminated on Aug. 7, 2026, according to Georgia POST (state officer certification) records, which don't say why, WSB-TV and The Roundabout reported. His attorney told WSB-TV on Oct. 16 that he was fired for neglect of duty, abuse of position and use of departmental equipment after using the city's Flock cameras seven times over two years to check on his wife during diabetic emergencies, and that he plans to take the case to Superior Court. Milton's license plate reader policy limits use to "legitimate law enforcement purposes only." City Manager Steve Krokoff and Council Member Carol Cookerly told WSB-TV there is more to the story that the city expects to release in the next couple of weeks, and that they can't comment on an ongoing investigation and personnel matter. The officer has not been charged. The Roundabout reported that two Milton officers are on USA TODAY's list of officers flagged for unusual Flock search patterns.
