Excelsior Springs, Missouri council approves removing its 15 Flock cameras; the contract ends in November
The Excelsior Springs City Council on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, approved removing all 15 of the city's automated license plate reader cameras, FOX4 reported. The city's public works department was set to bag the Flock cameras Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, and the city will end its agreement with Flock in November. The item before the council was Resolution No. 1687, which, according to the meeting packet, directs the city manager to terminate the November 2023 Flock agreement for non-appropriation on 30 days' written notice, stop the city's use of the system, cover every Flock camera on city property or right-of-way, and ask Flock to remove its equipment. The council had left the cameras out of the fiscal 2027 budget on Sept. 28, and a resident group presented a 1,021-signature petition on Oct. 5 asking the city to end the contract, the Excelsior Citizen reported. FOX4 said the vote came a little over a month after a town hall with local police on the cameras' impact.
