Lake Jackson, Texas council deadlocks 3-3 on Flock renewal; cameras to come down when the contract ends

A motion to renew Lake Jackson's roughly $12,500 annual Flock payment failed on a 3-3 tie on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, ending the city's program after nearly four years, The Facts reported. Council members Ralph Buell, Jon "J.B." Baker and Kevin Herrington voted to renew; Mayor Rhonda Seth and council members Leonard Schooler and Matthew Bjune voted no (The Facts). Police Chief Paul Kibodeaux said he brought the contract back for guidance because of growing national scrutiny of Flock, that the department had limited access to supervisors and moved audits from monthly to weekly, and that Flock will remove the city's cameras when the contract ends; The Facts' headline says that will be in December. The city approved an agreement worth about $62,000 in 2023 (The Facts). Police can still access privately funded cameras run by some local businesses and a subdivision (The Facts).
