Quincy, Massachusetts council votes to recommend removing or covering the city's Flock cameras

Quincy City Council members voted Monday night, Oct. 19, 2026, on a resolution recommending that the mayor's administration have the city's Flock cameras removed or covered, Boston 25 News reported under the headline "Quincy City Council votes to recommend removal of Flock cameras." The item on the agenda was Resolution 2026-143, which calls on the administration to end all Flock Safety contracts as soon as possible, stop or cover the cameras until they are removed, report back to the council, and bring any future plate-reader contract to the council for approval. The resolution is a recommendation, not a binding termination; the decision on the contract rests with the mayor's administration. Boston 25 said residents spoke for more than an hour, most asking the city to get rid of the roughly 50 cameras over privacy and surveillance concerns, while one resident spoke in favor. Before the meeting, Police Chief Mark Kennedy told Boston 25 the cameras helped solve serious crimes, including a recent kidnapping case. Boston 25 did not report a vote count or what happened to the companion surveillance-oversight ordinance (Ordinance 2026-142) on the same agenda; it called the story developing.
