Sterling Heights, Michigan council votes 4-3 to renew Flock for two more years
The Sterling Heights City Council voted 4-3 to approve another two-year contract with Flock Safety at a meeting that began Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, and ended in the early hours of Wednesday (WXYZ, CBS Detroit). The city's current contract was set to expire in December; the city has 23 cameras and the yearly cost is estimated at $84,100 (WXYZ). The contract was the only item on the agenda, the meeting lasted more than five and a half hours, and public comment alone ran over three hours (WXYZ). Police Chief Andrew Satterfield said system usage will now be reviewed every 30 days rather than every year (CBS Detroit). Council member Michael Radke voted no and proposed making officer misuse of the data a local misdemeanor; the council majority objected (CBS Detroit).
