How to spot a Flock camera (and report one)

Where license-plate readers are usually mounted, what to look for, and how to check our map or add a missing camera.

Where they're mounted

EFF says ALPRs are typically on street poles, streetlights, highway overpasses and mobile trailers, or on police cars (EFF). Flock describes its cameras as solar-powered and wireless, and says HOAs typically put them at neighborhood entrances and exits (Flock). In practice, look at road entrances to towns, neighborhoods and shopping centers.

What to look for

For photos of common models, see DeFlock The USA's photo guide. Don't trespass, climb or touch the equipment (see our terms).

Check the map

Our Flock camera map shows every license-plate reader reported on OpenStreetMap. It's refreshed daily: 144,121 reported in the US as of 2026-10-12. Check your street or your drive. Reported doesn't mean verified, and a missing pin doesn't mean no camera.

Report a missing or wrong camera

Add missing cameras through DeFlock. To fix a wrong one, open it on our map and use "Report a fix." Changes show up here after our next daily sync.
