Harris County Precinct 4 covers and takes 61 Flock cameras offline in western Harris County
Commissioner Lesley Briones had all 61 Flock cameras leased by Precinct 4 physically covered on Oct. 8 and asked Flock to formally decommission them, citing residents' privacy concerns, questions about outside-agency access and reports of improper searches elsewhere. Her office said it did not identify a specific incident. The county attorney said departments have discretion over their devices under the county's roughly $2 million Flock contract, so no vote was needed. The sheriff's office administers the system and has said license-plate readers have helped stop kidnappings and recover stolen vehicles. Commissioners Court is set to discuss the county's Flock contracts on Oct. 15.
