Sherman, Texas council votes 7-0 not to renew its Flock contract
The Sherman City Council voted 7-0 on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, on a resolution to get rid of the city's 11 Flock license plate cameras, KXII reported. The resolution, No. 7682 on the agenda, directs the city manager not to renew or extend the city's agreement with Flock Group Inc. KXII said the next step is for the city manager to remove the cameras, and that the vote also requires a public hearing before any city department installs plate-reader cameras in the future. Mayor Shawn Teamann told KXII before the vote that removing the cameras will probably take a little time. "We saw public interest increase with ALPR cameras," Teamann told KTEN, pointing to feedback from people in Sherman, across Texas and across the country. The item reached the agenda the same day Texas Comptroller Don Huffines said grants run by his office can no longer pay for license plate reader systems, Sherman.city reported. The city has not said how much the contract cost or when its current term ends.
